Thank you for your interest in Scouts at Murrumbateman!

For a small group, we offer a BIG range of personal development opportunities, fun youth development activities, building confidence and resiliance for youth members aged 8 to 18 years.

We have three age-based units aligned to the sections of the Scouts Australia program. These are:

  • Cubs Scouts (8 - 11 years, Wednesday 6.30pm to 8.15pm)
  • Scouts (11 - 14 years, Thursday 6.30 pm to 8.30pm)
  • Venturer Scouts (14 - 18 years, Thursday 6.30 pm to 8.30pm)

We currently meet at the Murrumbateman Public School whilst we're completing the fit out of our new hall at the Recreation Ground. In addition to week night meetings, (every week during the ACT school terms), some week night activities are conducted away from Murrumbateman (such as swimming, bowling and indoor rock climbing in Canberra and occaisionally fishing and water activities at local dams). All activities are shown in the unit term program. Weekend activities are conducted at various places in southern NSW and ACT and for the older youth members, sometimes elsewhere in NSW. There are also national and international Scouting activities that Scouts and Venturers can attend (such as the Scouts NSW Cuboree, Australian Jamborees and World Jamborees).

We would love to share the Scouting experience with your family. If Scouts looks like something your daughter or son would like to try then you are welcome to come along for a free four-week trial period to see what we have to offer. Before the end of that trial period, if you are happy for your child to stay involved in Scouts we will organise and confirm their membership of Scouts NSW and advise the membership fees payable.

Upon full membership, the only compulsory item of uniform which you will need to purchase is the relevant section shirt. The scarf, woggle and badges are all provided by the Group at the investiture ceremony. Of course, participation in outdoor activities may also require you to obtain other items of clothing and equipment such as suitable clothing for the climate, hiking boots, sleeping bag, backpack, cooking equipment and a tent.

Fees are now charged for annual membership period. The membership period is called a 'Trek' and covers the period April through March. Separate fees are charged by Scouts Australia (NSW Branch) and by the 1st Murrumbateman Scout Group, but are paid in one transaction. Details of the Scouts NSW fees structure are available at: https://www.scoutsnsw.com.au/info-for-parents/membership (please note provisions around refunds). In addition to the Scouts NSW fee, the annual Murrumbateman Group Fee is currently set at $220 for the Trek.  Payment plans are available. Hardship considerations are made on a case by case basis. Active Kids Vouchers can also be applied to fees.

Additional charges are levied for activities outside normal meeting nights, weekend camps, Cuborees (about 5 days long) and Jamborees (about 12 days long). Bigger regional, state, national and international scouting events offer fellowship, a range of fantastic travel and adventurous activity opportunities and unique experiences. Activity fees cover costs and depend on the duration, location and nature of the activity.

A successful Scout group such as ours relies heavily the active involvement of parents and other interested adult members of the community. We find scouting activities are more rewarding and beneficial for our youth members when parents are involved. Your commitment to supporting the Group and our activities is appreciated.

We look forward to discussing the Scouts Australia program and the 1st Murrumbateman Scout Group with you further.
